The department of Surgery has two surgical units. Both the units cater for all types of General Surgical and Surgical Gastrointerology work. These are facilities to undertahe prolene/mariex mesh repair of large recurrent inguinal and abdominal wall hernias. A great deal of Gastrointestinal and General Surgery ONCOLOGY WORK IS ALSO DONE HERE.

This department has done a large number of low anterior of resections for colon and rectal carchinomas with and without the use of staplers thus avoiding the need for permenent colostomies

The general out patient work is mainly on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. The other days of the week are operation theatre days.

This department also admits and treats a large number of trauma cases especially those after major road traffic accidents.

Coordinating with the department of Gastroenterology biliary and pancreatic surgery is also done very frequently performed using the C-arm whenever needed. Facilities for laoaroscopic surgery are also available
